Law enforcement officials are currently stationed at the southern entrance of the capital, where they are working to thwart armed gangs that have been imposing their will in the area. Several active gang members were killed in gunfights with the police, according to Lionel Lazarre, the general coordinator of the Haitian National Police Union (SYNAPOHA), who was unable to provide exact figures.
Lionel Lazarre, speaking on the airwaves of Radio Kiskeya, reported that law enforcement officials have seized weapons and stolen vehicles during these operations. "No police officers have been victimized so far," he said, taking the opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and bravery of the police officers who are fully engaged in the fight against armed gangs at the southern entrance of the capital.
