The National Police of Haiti is taking a step towards restoring the image of a criticized institution by inaugurating a Verification and Control Bureau to cleanse its ranks. The vetting process will regain its importance within the IGPNH. The Inspector General in Chief, Fritz St-Fort, paints a bleak picture of the police institution. "The alleged involvement of certain members of the institution in reprehensible activities such as crimes, rape, various forms of trafficking, corruption, and human rights violations is a cause for concern," he emphasized. However, Mr. St-Fort believes that all hope is not lost. "There is still hope. Certain deviations need to be corrected, and the Inspector General's office is responsible for leading this vetting process to restore the reputation of the police institution. The national police force must not perish. It must be reborn to continue serving the population," assured the Inspector General in Chief, noting that the existing legal framework, which is over 28 years old, is no longer as effective in addressing the various deviations observed within the PNH.
"It is important to implement other measures capable of launching a genuine purification campaign within the ranks. The situation is alarming. The IGPNH, aware of its mission as guardian of institutional values, intends to fully play its role in eradicating this evil that could cause the collapse of the PNH," declared Fritz St-Fort.
