Before Canaan, there was Village de Dieu. On March 12, 2021, elite officers of the National Police were killed in Village de Dieu during an anti-gang operation. The victims' bodies were never recovered. Over two years later, the country still awaits the results of the investigation opened into this failed operation, while the families of the victims persist in their pursuit of justice.

Almost two years after the Village de Dieu incident, on January 25, 2023, six more police officers were killed by the Savien gang in Petite-Rivière de l'Artibonite during a police operation. Once again, the officers' bodies were abandoned. Much like the Village de Dieu case, the investigation into this tragic operation remains ongoing. In both instances, accountability remains uncertain, and it is even unclear whether there is an active judicial inquiry underway for either case.
