The already precarious security conditions have deteriorated in several neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince and its surroundings in recent weeks. The call from the United States urging its citizens to leave the country as soon as possible is a testament to this. This call comes in the midst of an intensification of gang violence in Carrefour-Feuilles, Tabarre, and other neighborhoods in the metropolitan area. Throughout this week, residents from various districts report that the sound of automatic gunfire disrupts their sleep. Simultaneously, reports of kidnappings in Port-au-Prince and certain provincial cities are on the rise.

It's in this context that the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) released its quarterly report for the period from April to June 2023. The report cites a total of 1,860 cases of murder, injuries, and kidnappings throughout the country during the covered period.
