The 29 September 2023 edition of the newspaper Le Moniteur officially announced the decree establishing the General Budget of the Republic of Haiti for the 2023-2024 financial year. This budget, totaling 320,645,000,000.000 Gourdes, was approved during a Council of Ministers meeting held last week on Thursday, September 28, 2023. This marks a difference of 53,145,000,000.00 Gourdes, or a 19.9% increase, from the initial budget estimate for the 2022-2023 fiscal year, which was 267,500,000,000.00 Gourdes.

A contrasting feature of this latest budget is the authorities' low forecast for funding from domestic resources. In fact, only 75.3 billion gourdes of domestic resources are expected to finance the budget. This still reflects the country's heavy dependence on external budgetary support, especially for a government that wants to return to economic growth, improve social stability and improve security conditions, as outlined in the main priorities of the 2023-2024 budget.
