According to the budget projections for this fiscal year that began on October 1, 2023, the government plans to collect 48.22 billion Haitian Gourdes in direct taxes, compared to 42.783 billion Gourdes in the previous budget, representing an increase of 12.7%, and 130.366 billion Gourdes in indirect taxes, up from 111.064 billion Gourdes in the previous budget, a 17.4% increase. Regarding the increase in direct and indirect taxes, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Michel Patrick Boisvert, addressed the concerns of taxpayers while speaking to journalists on the airwaves of Radio Magik 9 this week. He referred to the inflation rates to justify these increases.

"In general, indirect taxes consist largely of value-added taxes (VAT). As for direct taxes, they mainly include income tax and corporate tax. We are being very conservative, which means there are no new tax fields and no increases in existing taxes," explained the country's finance minister. He argued that the projection of a 16.2% inflation rate by the end of the 2023-2024 fiscal year explains almost everything regarding the increase in revenue.
