It's the last month of 2023. It's not too early for every individual and every institution to start taking stock. What if we made this demand of those who manage public affairs in Haiti? What would Prime Minister Ariel Henry say to the country? Prime Minister Ariel Henry is still unable to guarantee the smooth running of the country. The Haitian population is facing the same emergencies as when the head of government came to power in July 2021. Ariel Henry had given himself the December 21, 2022 agreement to start leading the country in 2023. With a month to go before the end of the year, the benefits of this agreement are still to be seen.
It can be acknowledged, however, that the Prime Minister has established a Transitional High Council for the country, which, unfortunately, proves to be a stillborn structure. No need for acrobatics to assess the HCT, which has only a failed security forum to its credit. Alongside the HCT, Ariel Henry can also boast of the United Nations Security Council's vote authorizing the deployment of an international mission to support the HNP (Haitian National Police) in Haiti. While waiting for the deployment of this mission, gangs continue to sow mourning among the population and expand their territory, much to the detriment of the Haitian National Police, whose efforts to restore security across the country have not yet yielded the expected results.
