Pushed to the extreme by gangs these days in the metropolitan area, insecurity is affecting all sectors of the Haitian economy. Textile factories, for example, are in serious danger of not being able to renew their stocks of the raw materials they need to manufacture the garments they export.
"Due to the closure of the Port-au-Prince port for nearly a month, textile factories operating in the Metropolitan Industrial Park will be forced to reduce their workforce or even close their doors as early as next week since they will be deprived of raw materials," shared Georges Sassine, former president of the Haitian Industries Association, speaking to the newspaper over the phone.
