The IMF emphasized the devastating consequences of Haiti's multidimensional crisis and noted that net international reserves were estimated at nearly one billion U.S. dollars as of the end of September 2024. The IMF also set a critical benchmark: the publication of the 2023 audit of Haiti’s Central Bank (BRH) by June 2025, calling it "an important transparency measure."
"On December 20, 2024, the IMF management approved the implementation of a Staff-Monitored Program (SMP) for Haiti until December 19, 2025. This new twelve-month SMP was designed by the Haitian authorities in collaboration with IMF staff. It accounts for Haiti’s fragility and capacity constraints while supporting the economic policy objectives set by the authorities," reads an IMF statement dated December 21, 2024.
