In 2024, Haiti's economy contracted by -4.2% according to official figures released by the government. This marks the sixth consecutive year of economic contraction in Haiti. Invited to the program "Great Economic Rendezvous" on Wednesday, January 1st, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Alfred Metellus, admitted that he does not have a secret solution to enable Haiti's economy to return to growth. However, the finance minister expressed his openness to working with everyone.
"We are here to work and build confidence. As soon as there is confidence, investments will follow. We are currently seeking the necessary measures to boost economic activity to get back on the path of growth," asserted Alfred Metellus, highlighting that he is in discussions with business associations about the necessary steps for companies heavily affected by the current crisis to resume their activities.
