The Haitian judiciary is in mourning. Former Supreme Court judge Wendelle Coq Thélot passed away during the night of January 10 to 11, 2025. Judge Coq Thélot, who had been forced into retirement by the late President Jovenel Moïse when she was considered a potential replacement for him, had kept a low profile since her name was linked to a plot to overthrow Mr. Moïse and his assassination on the night of July 6 to 7, 2021. Wendelle Coq Thélot had been cited in the investigation into the assassination of the former president.

While political figures and even members of the legal profession have largely remained silent about her passing or paying tribute to her memory as a judge, the Fondasyon Je Klere (FJKL) has expressed its condolences. The foundation paid tribute to her as a "symbolic figure of the Haitian legal community."
