After apologizing to Haiti for the alleged involvement of a Colombian commando in the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, Colombian President Gustavo Petro is opening a new chapter in the relationship between the two nations. He is expected this Wednesday, January 22, in Jacmel. Haitian authorities are taking the visit very seriously, with the country's highest officials having spent several days in the city of Alcibiade Pommeyac preparing to host the Colombian head of state.
Before President Petro's official visit to Haiti, the President of the Transitional Presidential Council, Leslie Voltaire, traveled to Colombia last December, accompanied by government members, for a Haiti-Colombia ministerial council. A joint statement was issued by both parties, expressing their willingness to collaborate in various areas. Will President Petro's visit enable the governments of both countries to turn intentions into action?
