Ambassador Dorothy Shea, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the US mission to the UN, without giving details, called on the transitional government to prioritize governance over personal interests during her intervention at the UN Security Council meeting on Haiti, Wednesday January 22, 2025. “It is clear from these briefings that Haiti continues to face significant governance and security challenges. The transitional government should prioritize governance over competing personal and political interests. This is not the time for political infighting,” she said.
“We encourage the Transitional Presidential Council to continue working with BINUH to support the political transition and the Haitian people. This includes working together to create the conditions for free and fair elections,” said Shea, who referred to corruption in the context of the indictment of three CPT members. “We strongly encourage Haitian efforts to address allegations of corruption and promote transparency and accountability,” she added. In response to the critical stance taken by China and Russia, the American diplomat took the floor for a second time at this meeting to encourage people to avoid looking for scapegoats and to focus on solving the problems in Haiti.
