The Trump administration has the merit of being clear about the direction of its foreign policy. Except for Israel, it has neither definitive allies nor permanent enemies. The warming of relations between Washington and Moscow, culminating in an upcoming Trump-Putin meeting, is proof of this, even if it unsettles many of America’s traditional allies, including the European Union.
The speech by U.S. Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Summit, in which he accused Europeans of failing to respect "freedom of expression", his rapprochement with the far-right, pro-Nazi AFD party in Germany just before elections, and the confirmation that the U.S. was considering negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine or the Europeans have all been poorly received on the Old Continent.
