The monetary policy note for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024–2025 shared information confirming the negative impact of violence on the Haitian economy. “At the level of the real sector of the Haitian economy, the deterioration of the sociopolitical and security climate has hindered income-generating activities, thereby exacerbating the country’s structural vulnerabilities. This situation has weakened the productive apparatus, leading to a contraction in output across all economic sectors. Indeed, the sluggishness of economic activity, as indicated by the evolution of the Economic Activity Indicator (ICAE) in the fourth quarter of the 2023–2024 fiscal year, persisted during the first three months of the 2025 fiscal year, following a 6% decline in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the previous quarter. In cumulative value, it fell by 4.2% over the past fiscal year, driven by the underperformance of the economy’s three main sectors. However, the financial sector showed resilience, posting quarterly and annual growth of +1.9% and +1.6%, respectively,” reads the monetary policy note.
