April 7, 2025 marks the 222nd anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture, a central figure in the fight against slavery and a forerunner of Haiti’s independence. On this occasion, the Embassy of Haiti in France took part in a series of solemn commemorations, ranging from laying wreaths of flowers to moments of reflection at his last place of detention, the Château de Joux, and at the memorial built below, in Grand Pontarlier, to honor the memory and legacy of Toussaint Louverture.

The official ceremony was held in the presence of a delegation from the Embassy of Haiti in France, as well as local authorities, including Patrick Genre, President of the Community of Communes of Grand Pontarlier; Éric Liégeon, Member of Parliament for Doubs; Nicolas Onimus, Sub-Prefect of Pontarlier; as well as Senators Annick Jacquemet and Jean-François Longeot. Many Haitians from various regions of France and Switzerland also took part in the different events.
