Five days after the election of Canada’s Prime Minister, the Haitian government has finally acknowledged Mark Carney’s victory. In a statement released Friday, the Prime Minister’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. However, the Presidential Transitional Council has still not said a word about Mr. Carney’s election.

“Haiti congratulates the newly elected Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, and acknowledges the Haitian representation in Parliament. The government of the Republic of Haiti, through Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, extends its sincere congratulations to Mr. Mark Carney on his electoral victory as Prime Minister of Canada on April 29, 2025,” reads the statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
