This week, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Tim Kaine (D-VA), Rick Scott (R-FL), John Curtis (R-UT), and Chris Coons (D-DE) reintroduced the bipartisan Haiti Criminal Collusion Transparency Act, which would prioritize U.S. leadership in addressing the ongoing violence in Haiti, according to a press release issued Thursday, May 22, 2025.
This bill will impose sanctions on Haitian gangs, armed criminal actors, and their political and economic supporters. It will also require extensive interagency cooperation, the identification and reporting of criminal collusion and threats to U.S. national interests, notably through an annual report submitted to Congress by the Secretary of State, the statement said.
