Agronomist and engineer Jean-Robert Estimé, 84 years old, passed away in the United States this past weekend, Le Nouvelliste has learned. The son of former President Dumarsais Estimé, he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and as Haiti’s Ambassador to France under the regime of lifelong President Jean-Claude Duvalier.
On his LinkedIn profile, Jean-Robert Estimé—at one point considered a potential candidate for Prime Minister after years away from active politics—provided a summary of his background and experience: “Results-oriented international expert with over 35 years of experience in political reform, institutional capacity building, public administration, development of the financial and private sectors, rural development, infrastructure construction and maintenance, and promotion of trade and investment across the Caribbean, Africa, North and South America, and Southeast Asia,” he wrote.
