On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, it was announced that around fifty officers of the Haitian National Police (PNH) have been trained in sign language. This training, held from May 26 to 30, 2025, was organized by the PNH’s Welfare Directorate (DBE), in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (BSEIPH). The training aims to strengthen the participants’ skills to better support people with hearing impairments.

In principle, this initiative is a positive step for the police institution, whose motto is to protect and serve all segments of the population. What is concerning, however, is that we regularly see training programs on topics that are far removed from the public’s primary concern: security.
