Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), a member of the House Committee on Financial Services, did not hold back her criticism after the U.S. Supreme Court granted the Trump administration's request to revoke the humanitarian parole granted to more than 500,000 immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela and to order their expulsion from the country.
“Donald Trump is demonstrating the height of his racism as he works to expel 500,000 legal immigrants from this country. These are individuals who followed the legal process to apply for and obtain humanitarian parole, which allows migrants from countries facing instability—such as Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela—to enter the United States, live, and work here legally for two years, provided they have a private sponsor. These individuals went through the proper procedures, entered the U.S. legally, and became law-abiding members of their communities who contribute positively to society. It is entirely cruel for Donald Trump to interfere with this process, strip them of their humanitarian parole status, tear them away from their families, sponsors, and communities, and expel them back to unstable conditions,” said Rep. Waters in a statement obtained by Le Nouvelliste.
