The iconic hotel located at the corner of Rue Capois and Avenue Christophe, the Oloffson—an architectural gingerbread masterpiece nestled in a vast, wooded estate and former residence of a family that produced two Presidents of the Republic, Tirésias Simon Sam and Vilbrun Guillaume Sam—was consumed by flames on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

The Oloffson is yet another victim—one more among many—of the ongoing clashes between Haitian security forces and criminal gangs that have been destroying everything in their path for more than four years now.
