The group Top Vice was born in the mid-1980s from the meeting between Carmelo Jean “Freddy” Frédéric and Robert Charlot, whose real name is Robert Charles Raymonvil. Their ambition was clear: to introduce digital technology into Haitian music.

Charlo, considered the father of the “Drum Machine” formula, became the group’s sound architect. A virtuoso on keyboards and bass, he recreated the entire ban dèyè with sophisticated programming and impressed audiences on stage by playing both instruments simultaneously, earning him the nickname “one-man band.”
