The first time I saw Monsignor Romélus was in December 1985, in the courtyard of the Saint-Jean l’Évangéliste school in Turgeau. That day, gospel singer John Littleton was giving a concert.

The public turned out in large numbers. Thousands of people crowded together to see the singer, but above all to show solidarity with Radio Soleil. The Duvalier government had just cut the signal of the hugely popular and highly critical Catholic Church station.
