The former senator of Nippes, Nenel Cassy, regained his freedom this Tuesday, August 19, 2025, after his hearing at the Port-au-Prince prosecutor’s office. Government Commissioner Frantz Monclair, who ordered his release at the conclusion of the hearing, confirmed the end of the proceedings by the Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ) against the former parliamentarian. Reached by telephone, the head of the Port-au-Prince prosecutor’s office, who did not wish to give more details on the case, promised to communicate officially on the matter shortly.

A small scene of rejoicing was observed among militants close to the former senator as he left the prosecutor’s office. Former senator Cassy had been apprehended on August 2 following a wanted notice issued against him for conspiracy against the internal security of the State, financing of criminal organizations, complicity in murder, and criminal association.
