The question may be premature, as the country is in the midst of a war against itself. The destruction of property continues. Those who have taken up arms against the nation go on sowing mourning, raping, kidnapping… Those who finance them also continue their dirty work. The arrival of Laurent Saint-Cyr at the head of the CPT, replacing Fritz Alphonse Jean, does not yet signal the beginning of the end of the spiral of blind gang violence. If it is true that lower Delmas is once again accessible to those willing to venture there, one does not know whether to laugh or to cry.

As the debate continues over the withdrawal of gangs from the neighborhoods of lower Delmas, the extent of the damage is being revealed hour by hour, day by day. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Thanks to reports from the UN and other national and international institutions documenting the crimes of the gangs, we already had an idea of the human toll of this crisis that has brought the country to its knees. The reopening of the neighborhoods of lower Delmas gives us an idea of the material damage. If it will one day be possible to tally the destruction of lives and property in all the neighborhoods occupied by gangs, one can imagine the bill.
