“We are proud and honored to announce that our web documentary entitled In Haiti, at the Heart of Hell, published in La Libre Belgique, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Visa d’Or,” rejoiced Johnson Sabin on his social media. “This distinction is a strong encouragement for our shared commitment to information, truth, and human dignity,” he added, while saluting the work of his teammates Milo Milfort and Gaël Turine.

For his part, Gaël Turine, a Belgian photographer who has been present in Haiti for nearly twenty years, confided: “I really wanted there to be a Haitian anchor. And that’s what I was able to do thanks to this web documentary.” The Visa d’Or, which he shares with Milo Milfort and Johnson Sabin, holds special value for him. “This distinction is an honor. Very honestly, it is a highly prestigious award in the world of journalism and photojournalism,” he emphasized, as someone who has already worked extensively in Haiti for Western media. “I am particularly happy to receive it. First, because I am sharing it with Milo and Johnson, and second, because we are receiving it for a ‘Haitian production,’” he insisted, with a hint of pride in his voice.
