After several weeks of analysis and consultation, the Ayiti Oscars committee has finally made its decision on the film that could have the chance to represent Haiti at the 98th Academy Awards ceremony, scheduled for March 2026 in Los Angeles, United States. The selected film is Kidnapping Inc., a dramatic comedy directed by Haitian filmmaker Bruno Mourral and produced by Muska Films. Consequently, the film has been officially submitted and is “in contention for the Academy’s shortlist in the Best International Feature Film category, which will be announced in December 2025, ahead of the nominations scheduled for January 2026,” said the president of the Ayiti Oscars Committee, Laurence Magloire, during her appearance on the program Lekòl Lage broadcast on Radio Magik9 on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
The last time an Ayiti Oscars committee—recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences—submitted a film to represent Haiti at the Oscars was in 2022. It was the successful feature film Freda, directed by Gessica Généus. Although the film was not ultimately selected for the next stage of this prestigious annual cinematic event, it allowed Haiti, for a brief moment, to nurture the hope of appearing on the shortlist for the “Best International Feature Film” category at the 2022 Oscars, or even of winning that distinction. But hope remains… Was it not the French poet Boileau who once said, “Vingt fois sur le métier, remettez votre ouvrage” (“Take up your work twenty times over”)?
