After having thrown their full weight behind the adoption, by the UN Security Council, of Resolution 2793 (2025) establishing the Gang Suppression Force (FRG), the United States is now asking the Haitian authorities to get their affairs in order. As has become customary in Haiti for foreign diplomats, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Henry T. Wooster, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, spoke bluntly, calling on the CPT and the Fils-Aimé government to present a concrete plan with a clear timetable for elections and the political transition after February 7, 2026.

While Haitian authorities have welcomed the Security Council’s vote in favor of the resolution creating the FRG, the American diplomat is holding them accountable. After nearly two years in power, the CPT remains far — very far — from fulfilling the missions entrusted to it. With four months left before the end of its term, all indications suggest there will be neither a constitutional referendum nor elections to hand over power to legitimate authorities by February 7, 2026.
