The 2024–2025 annual report of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) presents an alarming assessment of the obstacles hindering equitable access to justice in Haiti. The report highlights barriers related in particular to gender, language, and the cost of legal proceedings.
One of the main obstacles identified is the exclusive use of French in the judicial system, in a country where the majority of the population speaks only Creole. “The technical legal language, often incomprehensible to the average litigant, contributes to an indirect exclusion from access to justice,” the report emphasizes.
