This new team takes office following the resignation of the former president, Patrick Saint-Hilaire, on September 19. The representative of journalists’ associations, Jacques Desrosiers, who previously served as the CEP’s treasurer, has become the new president of the institution. He will be assisted by Jaccéus Joseph, representative of peasant associations, appointed vice president; Peterson Pierre Louis, representative of the Reformed Churches, designated secretary general; and Nemrod Sanon, representative of trade unions, elected treasurer.
In his farewell address, outgoing president Patrick Saint-Hilaire said he was leaving his post “with a clear conscience,” believing he had “served with dignity and unity.” “I did not resign because of the difficulties surrounding the electoral process in this particular and highly sensitive context. My decision was carefully considered. I remain a member of the Electoral Council, firmly committed to the values and principles essential to organizing credible elections,” he declared.
