The U.S. chargé d’affaires, Henry T. Wooster, asserted that there is a “mutual influence,” agreements and disagreements with his Haitian hosts, and denied any “interference” in his exchanges, while emphasizing that it is his role to engage in dialogue with everyone in order to understand Haiti’s reality and inform his interlocutors about U.S. policies and interests, in the “Coffee Break with the Ambassador” segment on Tuesday, 9 December 2025.
“I have also heard that diplomats interfere in Haiti’s internal politics. As diplomats, our role is to meet with a wide range of actors in Haiti, including the government, the opposition, civil society, the media, and people from all backgrounds. It is the only way to understand the reality on the ground and to share with the host country information about the policies and interests of the United States. This is a two-way dialogue. We mutually influence each other’s points of view. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we disagree,” explained Henry T. Wooster, without naming the presidential adviser Fritz Alphonse Jean, who had published an exchange with the American diplomat and denounced interference and pressure because he supported dismissing Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé for lack of results.
