While the president of the Transitional Presidential Council, Laurent Saint-Cyr, expressed his concerns as February 7 approached during his speech celebrating Independence Day on Thursday, January 1, nine days later it appears that doubts have been dispelled. The CPT will indeed leave office on February 7, 2026, confirmed unequivocally by Leslie Voltaire, the Council’s second coordinator, during a conference on the development of the Southeast held in the conference hall of Manoir Adriana in Jacmel on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
The CPT will effectively step down from power on February 7, 2026. “Nou siyen pou nou ale. Apati 8 fevrye, nou pa lejitim. Nou prale (We signed to leave. As of February 8, we will no longer be legitimate. We are leaving),” Leslie Voltaire declared at a press briefing on the sidelines of the conference.
