On November 28, 2025, the U.S. administration set the end of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians. The announcement was made by U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. The reason given: Haiti no longer meets the conditions that would justify extending Temporary Protected Status. The decision sent shockwaves through the Haitian community, particularly among TPS beneficiaries, currently estimated at nearly 350,000 nationals.

The case is currently being heard before federal judge Ana C. Reyes, who is examining whether the decision taken by the Donald Trump administration complies with the law, and who is expected, after hearing both sides, to rule either to uphold or to annul it. According to attorney Frandley Denis Julien, while awaiting the judge’s decision, the signs are rather positive. “When you look at all the positions she [the judge] has taken during the hearings, she has clearly signaled the direction of her ruling,” said Me Julien, visibly optimistic.
