The Transitional Presidential Council is counting its final days before taking its full place in history. Its most resounding failure remains its inability to halt the infernal machinery of the gangs. More than 10,000 lives were lost during the 22 months of the Transitional Presidential Council’s tenure, between April 2024 and December 2025, according to figures compiled by the United Nations.
In January 2025, two months after the CPT dismissed Prime Minister Garry Conille amid a new surge in violence, the United Nations reported that “gang violence killed at least 5,601 people last year, an increase of more than 1,000 victims compared with 2023, according to figures verified by the United Nations Human Rights Office. In addition, 2,212 other people were injured and 1,494 kidnapped,” the UN also indicated.
