U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau paid an official visit to Haiti on Friday, May 29, 2026. The images published by the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti and by the American official’s X account are unequivocal: everything went well.

While the Haitian side highlighted the fact that all activities took place at the National Palace, a site considered dangerous only a few months ago, and while the most striking photograph is the one showing Prime Minister Fils-Aimé and Christopher Landau standing on the lawn of the presidential palace facing Bel-Air, a neighborhood known for its insecurity and where, not long ago, gunmen armed with automatic weapons were targeting the palace, the Deputy Secretary of State posted a selfie of himself and the Prime Minister taken with his personal phone.
