Nothing is going well anymore between the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the government. In a statement published on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, following a meeting with the Prime Minister’s Office, the CEP denounced the “unconstitutional” nature of an electoral decree submitted to it by the Prime Minister. “The head of government imposed an electoral decree on us without any possibility for debate,” criticized an electoral adviser, while the Prime Minister’s Office spoke of a convergence of views between itself and the electoral institution.
The document presented as the electoral decree that had been circulating on social media since last week “is indeed the one the Prime Minister presented to us, with only a few very minor modifications,” an electoral adviser who could not hide his frustration told Le Nouvelliste.
