The General Tax Directorate (DGI), one of the country’s oldest public institutions, officially celebrated its 102nd anniversary on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Karibe Convention Center under the theme: “The DGI Modernizes to Better Serve.” In the midst of a reform process, the tax collection agency is moving toward modernization.
“102 years of public service, commitment to the State, and contribution to financing national development,” declared Chesnel François, Director General of the DGI, to symbolize the institution’s 102 years of existence. He spoke of the need, after more than a century of operation, to build a DGI that is modern, transparent, efficient, and respected. He identified four fundamental pillars for achieving that vision.
