Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé traveled to Boston from June 11 to 14, 2026, for Haiti’s first match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Scotland. It was the first visit by a Haitian head of state to the national football team while it was participating in the world’s biggest sporting competition. During Haiti’s first World Cup appearance in 1974, the country’s President-for-Life at the time, Jean-Claude Duvalier, did not make the trip.

On Friday, June 12, the head of government began his visit by meeting with the Grenadiers at the Marriott Quincy Boston, where he conveyed the encouragement and support of the entire nation ahead of their entry into the global competition. In his remarks to the players, the Prime Minister described Haiti’s presence at the World Cup as a unifying moment for Haitians.
