Organized by the Office of the National Authorizing Officer, the Delegation of the European Union to Haiti, and several private sector organizations, the forum brought together members of the government, representatives of Haiti's private sector, European partners, and international financial institutions around a common objective: making investment a driver of economic recovery and sustainable development. Three sectors were identified as priorities: transportation and logistics, energy and extractive industries, and agriculture and agribusiness.
Opening the forum, Felix Fernandez-Shaw, Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the European Commission, framed the issue as extending well beyond economics alone. "In a world that is more fragmented, more unstable, and more competitive, investment is not merely an economic issue—it is a matter of sovereignty, resilience, connectivity, and partnership," he said. According to him, Global Gateway is not simply a financing mechanism but "a new way of conceiving European action," built on trust, transparency, high standards, and the pursuit of lasting benefits for people.
