"We are sincere. We genuinely want to change things. We want to work in a country where the rules of the game are clear," Richard Coles said in a recent interview with the YouTube channel Haïti Inter, as he sought to explain the shift in attitude and behavior among members of Haiti's private sector. He spoke of a different private sector—one that communicates more openly through an inclusive approach. Having learned from its accumulated failures over the years, Haiti's private sector has now set itself the challenge of ensuring that it does not fail once again, according to Richard Coles.

To achieve this, Haiti's private sector is no longer limiting its dialogue to its own members but is also engaging with other sectors, including the farming community. According to Mr. Coles, it is learning to listen. The sector has gone even further by seeking out the advice of Jacques Attali—an economist, graduate of the École Polytechnique, and member of France's Council of State—to obtain guidance and develop a roadmap.
