Elections must be held in an acceptable security environment that allows a large majority of the population to take part. That is the view of French Ambassador to Port-au-Prince Antoine Michon, expressed during a discussion with several media outlets at his residence on Thursday, July 30. He was questioned about the viability of the electoral calendar submitted by the CEP.
“I have not read the document in detail. But I believe the CEP made the organization of the elections conditional on an acceptable security environment. I agree with them. The pact signed between the political parties and the Prime Minister defines the minimum level of security as the reopening of the main roads. It is a good indicator, although not a sufficient one, in terms of security for organizing the elections,” Antoine Michon said.
