Throughout the day on Monday, August 10, 2026, three-wheeled motorcycles could be seen in the streets of Pétion-Ville, particularly at the intersection of Route de Frères and the Delmas highway, where significant economic activity is concentrated because of the presence of one of the municipality’s largest informal markets. The station located there, a gathering point for travel to various parts of the municipality, had a fairly large number of these vehicles, although fewer than usual.
The presence of these vehicles contrasts with the decision by the city government, which had announced over the previous weekend that they would be prohibited from entering the city. Indeed, in a video published on the Pétion-Ville City Hall Facebook page, Deputy Interim Executive Officer Geralda Nelson can be seen announcing the measure. The reasons cited by the municipal official were the traffic congestion caused by these vehicles and the risks they would pose in the context of persistent insecurity affecting several areas of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan region.
