Haiti commemorated International Youth Day on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Commemorative activities were held in various parts of the country. And then what? In the current situation, Haitian youth deserve sustained attention. In other words, more than just one day. As the majority of the population, young people are carrying on their shoulders this crisis that has brought the country to its knees.

This youth population, which should have been supported and guided in order to help pull the country out of the quagmire, has for far too long been left to fend for itself. It is therefore no coincidence that young people who could be strengthening the PNH, the FAd’H, entering our universities, and excelling in sports and the arts are today turning against society. The resources the country did not have yesterday to train them and put them to work, it must now find today to render them incapable of causing harm.
