The Urban Mobility Observatory (OMU), housed at the Henri Christophe Campus of Limonade of the State University of Haiti (CHCL/UEH), has published its first assessment of mobility in the Cap-Haïtien metropolitan area. Conducted toward the end of the first quarter of 2026, the study highlighted the difficulties faced daily by users of the Vaudreuil–Cap-Haïtien and Limonade–Cap-Haïtien corridors, between deteriorated roads, chronic congestion and dependence on informal public transportation.
With more than 300,000 inhabitants and an area of 53.5 km², Cap-Haïtien is the main economic, educational and health hub of the North Department. However, the concentration of activities and services in the city center has generated significant travel from outlying areas, particularly Vaudreuil, Quartier-Morin and Limonade, the OMU study revealed. These populations depend on informal public transportation to reach the city center, while the road infrastructure connecting these areas is severely deteriorated.
