During the Ministry of Defense forum organized around the theme “What Kind of Army for Haiti?”, former military officer and diplomat Pierre Antoine Louis did not hesitate to identify the United States as one of the main sources of threats to Haiti. The former member of the U.S. Marine Corps was speaking during the second day of the forum, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, on external threats to the sovereignty of the State.

“After the Dominican Republic, the main threat to Haiti comes from the United States of America,” Pierre Antoine Louis said. He explained this assertion by the proliferation of weapons, particularly heavy weapons, and ammunition on Haitian territory. According to the diplomat, these weapons and ammunition come 100% from the United States and enter the country either through the various border crossings with the Dominican Republic or through the country’s ports. In the diplomat’s sights are members of the Haitian diaspora who serve as intermediaries in the arms trafficking between Haiti and the world’s leading power.
