At the end of three days of discussions among public officials, social partners, experts, and representatives of institutions, the National Forum on the Modernization and Consolidation of the Pension System, organized by ONA on September 18, 2026, at the Karibe Hotel, delivered a clear message: reform can no longer wait.

“The modernization and consolidation of the general pension scheme can no longer be postponed. They constitute a social, economic, and institutional necessity for our country.” With this statement, Lovely François, Director General of the National Old-Age Insurance Office (ONA), closed the forum. It was a call to action that summed up three days of reflection on the challenges of a pension system that is still insufficiently broad in its coverage and on the reforms needed to ensure its long-term viability.
