“The Haitian justice system has relinquished the Jovenel Moïse assassination case in favor of the U.S. justice system,” said Pierre Espérance, Executive Director of the National Human Rights Defense Network (RNDDH), appearing on Panel Magik on Monday, September 21, 2026. Mr. Espérance made the statement following the transfer to the United States on Sunday, September 20, 2026, of 17 Colombians and Joseph Félix Badio, all suspected of involvement in the assassination.
Five years after the launch of judicial proceedings in Haiti following the assassination of Jovenel Moïse, Pierre Espérance said that the Haitian justice system had not accomplished anything significant.
