Out of potentially more than 6.5 million people of voting age who hold a national identification card, 637,321 are registered as voters two months after the launch of the registration process. As of Monday, September 21, the CEP had registered eight presidential candidates, while 30 political organizations out of the 105 approved had been able to register their 30,000 members.

At the close of business on Monday, September 21, 637,321 people were registered as voters across the country. The process is moving slowly. In an attempt to provide reassurance about the progress of the electoral process, the Electoral Council says it has recorded “significant progress toward the upcoming electoral contests,” even though the figures suggest otherwise.
