The electoral process continues to slowly make its way forward in the 14 municipalities of the Northeast Department. From July 20, when voter registration operations were launched in the department, through last weekend, approximately 45,000 citizens in the Northeast registered on the electoral roll, according to a source at the Departmental Electoral Office (BED). This progress comes as registration operations continue at Registration and Voting Centers (CIVs) throughout the department. As of September 21, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) reported that 104 CIVs were operational in the Northeast.

In the municipalities, the process is also beginning to take on another dimension with the filing of candidacies. Individuals seeking various elected positions, particularly within local governments, have begun taking the necessary steps with the Municipal Electoral Offices (BECs). The electoral decree stipulates that candidates must appear with all required documents to submit their declaration of candidacy to the relevant BED or BEC, depending on the position sought.
